In 2019, I installed my first EcoFinish® pool in Liberty City, Texas, using the Blue Lagoon color. In September 2026, we went back to the same pool to see how the coating had actually held up after roughly seven years of family use.
The pool still looked very good overall. We did not see obvious widespread fading on the steps or across the pool, and we did not find widespread delamination. We did find a few localized maintenance items around the spa, which is exactly why I think it is useful to go back and look at real jobs instead of only repeating lifespan claims.
Then and now
We still have a project photo from 2019, the year the EcoFinish was installed, as well as current photos from our 2026 inspection. Because pool color can look different with changes in lighting, camera exposure, water movement and viewing angle, we use the older image as a project reference—not as proof that the water color photographed identically seven years later.
Did the steps fade?
No obvious step-fading pattern stood out during this inspection. The steps and shallow areas still looked consistent with the surrounding finish. That was especially useful to see because I have inspected and repaired other EcoFinish installations where the steps showed noticeable fading or wear.
Was there any delamination?
We did not find widespread bubbling, peeling or delamination across the pool surface. That does not mean the pool was literally perfect. Around the spa, there was a small localized area of peeling near the tile and a minor imperfection around one jet. The area around the jet appeared to reflect a slight irregularity in the underlying surface rather than a broad coating failure.
Localized wear and a widespread coating failure are two very different things. On this pool, the main coating was still intact. The small areas we found were concentrated around the spa and fittings rather than spread across the pool.
What else did we find?
There was some scaling around the spa tile. Both rubber tubes serving the bubblers were also cracked and no longer working. Those tubes are water-feature components, not part of the EcoFinish coating. I replaced both while we were there at no charge.
What does this prove?
One pool does not prove that every EcoFinish installation will age exactly the same way. Preparation, application, substrate condition, water chemistry, physical wear and the way a pool is used all matter. What this revisit gives us is something more useful than a generic lifespan promise: a documented look at one real Aqua Pool Finishes installation after roughly seven years.
It also reinforces why application quality matters. We have repaired EcoFinish work installed by others where the steps showed fading and localized coating separation. We do not use those examples to attack another contractor or pretend we can diagnose every cause from photos alone. We use them to explain why preparation, heat, layer fusion and application technique matter.
