Aqua Pool Finishes resurfaces and remodels existing gunite pools in Tyler and surrounding East Texas communities. Some pools need only a new interior finish; others need tile, coping, crack repair, plumbing access or structural work before the new finish should be installed. The first job is separating a finish problem from a larger pool problem.
Pool resurfacing options for Tyler homeowners
EcoFinish
A smooth thermoplastic finish applied over a properly prepared substrate. APF has been installing EcoFinish since 2019.
Plaster + quartz
Traditional cementitious options ranging from marcite to colored quartz blends, with different price, texture and appearance profiles.
Pebble + specialty finishes
Aggregate, polished and specialty finishes for homeowners prioritizing a particular look or texture.

When resurfacing turns into a renovation
A new interior can dramatically change an older pool, but Matt does not want the finish to hide a problem that should have been addressed first. Cracks, unexplained water loss, delamination, an out-of-level waterline, separated coping/decking or plumbing issues can change the scope.
Renovation work can include waterline tile, coping, decking, steps, benches, tanning ledges, water features, hardscape and structural or plumbing access work. See the full remodeling guide.
Tyler projects: real finishes in East Texas light
APF's Tyler project library includes Midnight Blue and Ice Ice Bay Bay EcoFinish, Blue Lagoon, quartz, marcite, StoneScapes mini pebble, Hydrazzo/HydraGlass-type polished specialty work, glass tile spa work and larger remodels. That local project history is useful when choosing color because the same finish can read differently in Texas sun, shade and different pool depths.

Signs your Tyler pool may need more than a cosmetic resurface
- Structural-looking cracks or cracks that continue through more than the finish
- A waterline that is noticeably higher at one end of the pool than the other
- Decking or coping separating from the pool structure
- Large hollow or delaminated finish areas
- Water loss well beyond normal hot-weather evaporation
- Fiberglass or gel coat failing over an older gunite shell
Those signs do not diagnose the cause by themselves. They are reasons to inspect the pool before choosing a final finish.
Pool resurfacing vs. pool remodeling: what does your Tyler pool need?
Pool resurfacing primarily replaces or covers the interior swimming surface after the existing substrate has been properly evaluated and prepared. It is appropriate when the shell and surrounding components are generally sound but the finish is rough, stained, worn, dated or otherwise ready for replacement.
Pool remodeling or renovation goes further. A remodel may combine resurfacing with waterline tile, coping, steps, benches, tanning ledges, decking, water features, plumbing work or structural repairs. If the pool has movement, significant cracks, widespread delamination or hidden plumbing problems, those issues can matter more than the finish you ultimately choose.
A visible crack or damaged finish does not always tell you the size of the repair. A surface crack may be relatively straightforward, while a structural crack can require opening the area and determining why the shell moved. Likewise, widespread plaster delamination can add substantial preparation because loose material may need to be removed before a dependable new finish can be installed.
What affects pool resurfacing cost in Tyler?
There is no useful one-price-fits-all number without seeing the pool. Price changes with pool size and geometry, the finish selected, how much existing material must be removed, access to the backyard, tile and coping work, structural repairs, plumbing issues and whether steps, benches or other features are being changed.
A pool that needs a straightforward interior resurface is a very different project from a pool with hollow plaster, a shifted waterline, failing fiberglass over gunite or cracks that need structural investigation. That is why APF prefers to identify the condition of the existing pool before presenting the final scope. For broader pricing factors, see our pool resurfacing cost guide.
How a Tyler resurfacing or renovation project starts
- Look at the symptoms. Roughness, stains, cracks, water loss, hollow areas, failing coatings and movement can point to very different scopes.
- Evaluate the existing surface and structure. The new finish is only as dependable as the surface and repairs beneath it.
- Choose the renovation scope. Decide whether the project is finish-only or should also address tile, coping, steps, decking or other updates.
- Select the finish and color. Compare texture, appearance, maintenance goals, Texas heat and how the color will look in the pool's actual sun and shade.
- Prepare and install correctly. Proper surface preparation and installation technique matter as much as the finish brand itself.
EcoFinish resurfacing in Tyler
EcoFinish is one of APF's specialty options for homeowners who want a smooth interior surface. Correct preparation and application technique are critical. The thermoplastic material is heated during installation and must reach the surface in the right condition to bond properly to the prepared substrate.
Details such as step and bench edges require experienced gun angle and distance. APF has also repaired older EcoFinish installations where localized edge areas did not bond correctly. Depending on the condition, localized repairs can sometimes be blended rather than requiring an entirely new finish. Learn more about EcoFinish pool resurfacing.
Older plaster, stains and delamination
Not every stained pool can be restored with pressure washing. Some stains respond to cleaning, polishing or chemical treatment, but deep staining in an older plaster surface can remain. The same is true of delamination: if large areas of existing plaster are hollow or separating, simply covering them with another finish may not be appropriate. Preparation can become a significant part of the resurfacing project.
If your main complaint is a rough interior, our rough pool plaster guide explains why texture changes and when the problem may be more than cosmetic.
Tyler and East Texas pool renovation experience
APF's local portfolio is not a stock-photo gallery. The Tyler-area projects on this page and throughout the site show finishes and renovations completed in the climate and light conditions local homeowners actually live with. Nearby project work also includes Lindale, Liberty City, Hawkins, Brownsboro, Bullard, Mineola and other East Texas communities.
For homeowners comparing contractors, that local history matters: you can evaluate real finish colors, remodel scopes and completed work rather than relying only on a manufacturer's sample or a pool photographed in another part of the country.
Choosing a finish color in Tyler
Full sun, shade, depth, coping and tile all change how the water color reads. Darker finishes can also contribute to warmer-feeling water during July and August. Use our pool finish color guide before choosing from a sample or online photo alone.
Tyler pool resurfacing FAQs
Can you resurface a pool without doing a full remodel?
Yes, when the existing pool is otherwise sound. The condition of the substrate, cracks, delamination and other issues should be evaluated before the final finish is selected.
Do you remodel pools as well as resurface them?
Yes. Depending on the project, renovation can include tile, coping, steps, benches, decking, structural repairs and other updates in addition to the interior finish.
Can EcoFinish go over an existing pool surface?
In many situations EcoFinish can be installed over a properly prepared compatible substrate, but the existing surface must be evaluated first. Loose or failing material and underlying structural problems should not simply be hidden beneath a new finish.
Do you serve areas outside Tyler?
Yes. Aqua Pool Finishes serves Tyler and communities across East Texas, with additional work in North Texas and DFW depending on the project.
